Ash bowl

This bowl is turned from a piece of ash whose natural drying caused several cracks to open in the wood.

Rather than removing them, they were stabilized and filled with coffee grounds. This dark material traces the wood’s natural lines and creates a subtle contrast against the ash.

The form remains intentionally simple, with a slight angularity that leaves room for the grain and the wood’s natural markings to come forward.

As is often the case with reclaimed or locally sourced wood, part of a piece’s character only reveals itself when the log is opened and turned. The cracks, shifts in tone, and movement of the grain are an integral part of that story.
